Spring/Summer 2018 Fashion Trends

Jump on board and get ready for a road trip through the hottest trends seen on the catwalk at the latest London/Paris/Milan/NY SS18 fashion shows.

Wakeup Call

It’s time to wake up and put away the drab winter garb you’ve been holding on to – trends for the hot months ahead are all about happy, uplifting and ultra-colorful clothes. It’s not just the kids buying up rainbow-colored unicorns; sugared almond pastels are all the rage as are the brightest shades, some statement 80s-inspired pieces, and over-the-top textures, fringes, feathers, and more!

Color me happy

Vivacious primary colors like tomato red, cobalt, emerald green, and bright yellow, were everywhere to be seen — from Victoria Beckham to Preen.

Pastel perfect

Gentle sugared almond hues are a definite fashion statement this season. Besides their bold looks, Preen showed how powerful and pretty can work together with draped shapes and one-shouldered dresses in delicate pastel shades. Oh, and make way for the biggest color comeback of all — lilac!

All puffed up

Virgil Abloh commemorated the 20th anniversary of Princess Di’s death with puffy-sleeved jackets and large-shouldered printed dresses inspired by the late 80s. Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy channeled strong, squared blouses with Working Girl graphic prints, teamed with cowboy boots; while Anthony Vaccarello brought out all the pouffe power of Dynasty glamour.

Feathers and fringing

We’re not talking feathered bobs or bangs (aka fringes) – we’re talking fluffy ostrich and marabou floating down a host of runways, from John Galliano’s gold brocade trenches with feathers fluttering from the shoulders to Anthony Vaccarello’s feathered yeti boots. Another mood-lightener was statement fringing across hemlines, necklines, bags and pretty much anything else that could be fringed.

Beach ready

If you’re hankering after the Palm Beach, sun-drenched socialite look from the 60s, well, take it up a notch or two and you have another trend. A mad mix of rainbow colors, turbans and swirly prints was all there, especially at Marc Jacobs and Gucci, with tropical Hawaiian prints to boot.

Check that

Another statement print is checks — from ginghams to shopper-bag checks, and even checked tights…. all donned by models at Loewe, Alexander McQueen, Mary Katrantzou, and Fendi.

Short it out

It’s time to dig out those shorts from the back of your closet – you know the once you use only on holidays where no one knows you! This summer prepare for the Statement Short, such as the silky boxer-style shorts by Louis Vuitton, high-waisted leathers from Saint Laurent, or a host of shorts suits finishing at the knee.

Dress up

Besides shiny textures, transparent rain macs, and sexy tracksuits pared with heels, of course, summer wouldn’t be the same without a selection of pretty floral dresses.

If the runway trends are a tad risqué or too bold for a day at the office, dashing to the local supermarket, or a night out on the town, develop your own toned-down take. Just make sure to dress yourself happy.
